McKemy Center Services
Number Served in 2005 The McKemy Center Adult Activity Services provided daily training and advocacy to 62 individuals with mental retardation, ages 21 and older, and their families. Services Provided The McKemy Center is a 10,000 square foot building where individuals prove to be successful in producing finished quality products as a result of their efforts. Five ongoing contracts with Kohler, Chamber of Commerce, Huntsville Hospital, Early Works Museum and Sci-Quest provide opportunities for each person to earn a paycheck while also learning various independent living skills. In addition, our recycling program enables the individual to go out into the community to collect paper and cans while earning minimum wage. Each individual participates in a Person Center meeting to form new goals for the coming year working on specific training objectives. Consumer Satisfaction Results Each year families that the Arc serves are asked to complete a satisfaction survey. Results from this year’s surveys are:
Positive Feedback This year’s surveys complemented staff for providing a great working atmosphere and used such words as “compassionate, understanding, very concerned, dedicated, structured, and loving” to describe staff. Families expressed gratitude for having a place for their consumer to attend. Accomplishments for the Year The McKemy Center grew over the past year increasing the number served from 58 to 62 individuals. Two individuals were found part time jobs this year. The Arc purchased a new 2006 over cab box truck for our recycling program including a side door and a back lift. Monday morning recreation was added this year at the Max Luther gym for interested individuals to participate in various recreational activities and a Boy Scout troop was formed in January holding informational meetings on various community resources.
