Torch Helps, Inc
The Arc of Madison County was nominated by Mr. Apple
and selected by Torch Helps contributors to receive the quarterly grant for
the Spring of 2008. The Arc will use the funds along with matching federal
funds to purchase an additional vehicle for their Infant and Toddler
Program. This program has been expanded with new staff that frequently
travels to the homes of developmentally disabled children in Madison County.
The vehicle will also be used to transport children and their families when
alternate transportation is not available.
Alabama Civil Justice
Foundation Grant
A $2,000 Grant along with Federal Medicaid Matching Funds will provide
$8,559 for nursing services to train staff, assist with medical emergencies,
administer first aid, and monitor clients with medical conditions.
Huntsville Hospital
A Community Health Initiative Grant for $10,000
was awarded by Huntsville Hospital to provide medical and dental
services and procedures (not covered by insurance, Medicaid or Medicare) for
children and adults with mental retardation.
Senator Richard Shelby Grant
In 2006, Senator Richard Shelby obtained $350,000 in Federal Funding from the U.S.
Dept. of Transportation for The Arc’s “Moving on to Independence” Project. These
funds have allowed us to purchase:

vehicles are used to transport our clients with disabilities from Arc Day
Programs, on community outings, to and from medical appointments, community
jobs, and our recycling work program.
